Anybody remember Crocodile Dundee and how he wrestled crocs?
The Aussie Outback is still as exciting but you don't have to get to grips with one of these ferocious lizards to find out! There's a much safer and enjoyable way to do it. Ever heard of self-drive?
The best way to see the Australia is to do it by road and it's a lot easier than you think - simply rent a Motorhome, campervan or, if you're of the more adventurous sort, a 4-wheel-drive (4WD) and you're ready to go!
Safe and secure campervan parks can be found along every self-drive route where one can stop and recharge batteries, fill up on fresh water and well ... dump waste. Parks are well-lit and often come equipped with barbeque and picnic facilities as well. Most vehicles are well-equipped with linen and bedding, cooking and eating utensils, showers, refrigerators, microwaves and stoves - quite literally a home on wheels.
Alternatives include staying at a safari or wilderness camp (it ranges from basic to luxury), putting up at motels en-route or roughing it out under the great blue Australian sky.
Places of interest that are easy to get to are Kakadu (Ayer's Rock), Litchfield, Katherine Gorge, King's Canyon and the Bungle Bungles (to name a few).
Our advice - get in touch with a knowledgeable broker (try www.australia4wheeldriverentals.com) who can give you plenty of options and advice on routes and places to visit. More often than not you'll be able to get a better deal and a whole lot more of first-hand information.
