This isn't just any walking tour. It's an immersive journey that weaves together history, culture, architecture, and cuisine, telling the multifaceted story of Melaka - once a thriving trading port contested by colonial powers, now a multicultural city reflecting centuries of Asian and European influence. Wander through its old streets, past ruins and landmarks, where history continues to live and evolve.
The heritage trail begins at Middlesburg Bastion by the Melaka River, before heading to the Dutch Square, home to the Stadthuys, the oldest Dutch colonial building in Southeast Asia. Next, we ascend St. Paul Hill to explore the ruins of St. Paul Church, the oldest Catholic church in Southeast Asia and the oldest European building east of India.
As we descend, we pass the Melaka Sultanate Palace, a wooden replica of the 15th-century Malay Sultanate, the Memorial of Independence - a museum chronicling Malaysia's journey to modernity - and the iconic Porta de Santiago, part of the Portuguese fortress Fortaleza de Melaka, later reinforced by the Dutch and partially destroyed by the British. Our stroll continues past historic colonial buildings along Fort Road and Heeren Street, once known as the Dutch Village and Millionaires' Row.
